Dear Friends,
As many of you already know, our friend Mike Benschneider, husband of Patrice O'Reilly, and father to Alex Marie (18) and Aiden Joseph (13) was diagnosed with ALS ( Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis). Many people in the US know it as Lou Gehrig's Disease after the great New York Yankee baseball player. This disease is a motor neuron disease that strips its victims of their ability to walk, utilize their extremities, speak, eat and eventually breathe. There is no cure. Additionally the medical care necessary to maintain a person with this disease is overwhelming for most families.
Mike was diagnosed in August of 2017 and has been living fully with the disease for almost two years now. Doctors at the Mayo Clinic estimated that Mike would live with this incurable disease for 18 months to 2 years. It is with great sorrow that I post that Mike passed away on Sunday, September 22nd. He passed peacefully with his family and many friends around him.
I am reposting this Go Fund Me link to encourage those who can, to help the family with the medical costs from Mike's illness and passing. Our healing prayers and love go out to Patrice, Alex, and Aiden as they face life without their husband/dad.
