Benny Madrid Memorial Fund

Benny Madrid passed away unexpectedly 2/17 in the early hours of the morning. As a lifelong musician, he was booked for a 3 day gig in Santa Fe, New Mexico. After finishing the 3rd and final night, he and the band went back to the hotel rooms to sleep to get ready for their long drive back home the next morning. He never got the chance to make it home. His roommate found him unresponsive around 4am. He was unable to be revived.

He was so incredibly healthy. He could run miles, he single-handedly managed the house, and decades of tearing down and lugging around heavy drum equipment kept him strong and mobile.

This man truly lived for his family. Although he was born for the stage and the lights and the music, he couldn't wait to get back home to his wife, his son, his daughter, and his pets. Our home was full of life because of him. Music always playing, soccer games on the TV, and the stove going with pots and pans of food.

Our immediate family has always been small out here in Las Vegas. It has made us incredibly close and with immense love for each other. We are so grateful for that.

We are preparing for funeral services for him. In addition to these costs, unfortunately the cost of flying him home from out of state was an unforeseen expense.

Our family as well as many of the musicians from within the community would love if it were possible to hold a subsequent celebration of life where musicians from all over town could play music and perform and jam in honor of his name. We are still looking into options for venues and dates, but are really hoping to have this in the next week or so, so we can keep these memories close and begin our process of the impossible task of trying to figure out how to live life without him.
