Bennett Franklin Burke III was my father. He was there when I took my first breath, just as he was for Conner's, Payton's, and Ethan's. He taught me how to ride a bike. He would sing "Brown-Eyed Girl" to me. He helped me with my schoolwork. He held my hand as I entered into the unknown territory of motherhood. He always offered the best advice. Yes, he was my father, but he was also so much more.
He was a grandfather, a husband, and an amazing friend. He was an entrepreneur, a devoted 49ers and Giants fan, and a Cal Berkeley graduate.
My dad was so smart. My dad was charming. My dad was very handsome. My dad had the funniest dry sense of humor that would always make me laugh when I didn't even want to smile, but then question if he was joking.
When we received the unfortunate news of my dad's diagnosis with kidney cancer, we all witnessed a newfound strength in his eyes; he faced this terrible disease with such bravery. He wanted nothing more than to live out the rest of his life surrounded by loved ones. He relived old memories and told us the best stories that I will never forget.
We have been so very grateful for the outpouring support, respect, and love that we have been shown throughout this difficult time. My dad appreciated it so very much and my family cherishes the final moments we had with such a great man.
Three weeks after being diagnosed, On Friday, September 18, 2015, at 1:06 AM, the world lost that great man but heaven gained a beautiful angel. Words cannot express the pain and sorrow within my heart as I reminisce on the hard times my dad suffered through, but I am relieved to know that he is no longer in any pain. He leaves behind a wife, 4 children, and 1 granddaughter.

Again, thank you for all of the continued love and support, because of all his amazing family and friends the last couple of weeks of his life became amazing memories his kids will cherish forever!
