Bennet’s Hospital Stay & Expenses
Donation protected
Please help cover the expenses of a 2+ week hospital stay. Bennet will be having surgery on February 3 to implant electrodes in his brain and monitor the brain activity for the following 2+ weeks. The surgery itself will take approximately 5 hours. Bennet’s mom, Shawna, will be staying at the hospital during this 2+ weeks and will not be able to work. The money will go to help them cover medical expenses, food during the stay, and lost wages. Anything you can donate is extremely appreciated!
Bennet Veltema has been battling epilepsy for the last 8 years. He had his first seizure in 5th grade, at age 10. He will be 18 on January 27. Medication has been able to control his seizures for the most part over the past several years. However, medication has stopped working to control his seizures. After having a few large seizures in 2021, he has spent several days in the hospital. In November, he spent about 1 week in the hospital. The goal of this stay was to determine where the seizures were originating in his brain. This determined that the seizures are in the same location as memory and language, therefore they are not able to do a resection or removal of any portion of the brain. Thus, the upcoming procedure and monitoring to determine what the next steps may be in order to control his seizures.
Donations and continued prayers are extremely appreciated!
