BENN BACOT - THE LONG AND WINDING ROAD
Hello to you all, my village.
About 3 1/2 weeks ago, the road for “The Bass Of The Bay” was leading to my return to one of San Francisco’s major venues for an evening of great music and fun. That was to be followed by a 3-week run in a dramatic production.
Then, completely out of left field, I hit a bump in the road --- I was diagnosed with cancer. I was hospitalized for tests and needless to say, I had no choice but to cancel my upcoming music and theatrical events. I am now starting a new chapter, which I am hoping will be just a short “detour” in what has been a wonderful journey in which many of you have traveled with me. As you know, I am good at appreciating that things are no better and no worse than they are at any moment. So we move forward.
Having pretty much taken care of the issues I was originally seen for, I am comfortable at home awaiting the beginning of therapy on the major issue of the cancer.
I have been through many rounds of appointments with various doctors and departments and a treatment plan has been decided on – starting this Tuesday, June 26 I will be undergoing 3 months of treatments. I am also told that I should plan on being out of work for at least 6 months, through December.
Standing in the need of prayers from your lips to his ears, all will be well.
Unfortunately you can’t just be sick and with such a debilitating, life changing event – there is a mountain of red tape and forms … applications for financial assistance and coverage, handicap placards, etc., etc., etc. Making sure I’ve crossed all of the T’s & dotted all the I’s! All so I can take advantage of the benefits and resources available to me while I am not able to work. And as with these things there is a waiting period until the benefits kick in. Living here in San Francisco, I’m confident that once all is in place and functioning, things will be fine.
However, until then I humbly come to you to ask for your assistance to help me bridge this gap between “working-man” and “no-income-man.”
I have been contacted by many with prayers and well wishes, and family and friends far and near have offered their assistance. Any and everything offered to help cover utilities, rent, food, especially cooked meals, etc., is greatly appreciated. No amount is too small since I know it comes from your heart.
And who knows who may be helped by my testimony down this road.
The battle has begun and as I travel this long and winding road, know that I am confident and in good spirits, and with the help and love of the communities I am a part of, I know I will be victorious --- so many more songs to sing!
I couldn’t do this without the support of my Village. It makes a big difference.
God bless and keep you each and every one. Stay in touch, as I will when possible to update you on my progress.
And please if you would, share my post to your “village!” (there's a link below you can use to share this)

Take these broken wings and learn to fly.
All your life,
You were only waiting for the moment to arise.”
