Benjamin's Special Heart ❤️

My nephew Benjamin was born in December 2019 with a congenital heart defect. He had his first open heart surgery at just two days old. Ben is a remarkable little boy, and despite all he has faced with his very special heart, he has exceeded all expectations in his recovery and health.

Ben’s second open heart surgery was held in June 2020 when he was six months old. He again defied all odds and was home from surgery in less than a week. Ben’s third open heart surgery will be in December 2023. This is the last surgery in a series of three procedures for a hypoplastic left ventricle, Ben’s specific condition, and the goal is to separate the circulation of blood in the heart. This is so oxygen-poor blood does not mix with oxygen-rich blood in the single ventricle. The expected hospital stay for this surgery is 10-14 days, but we are praying and believing our strong Ben will again exceed expectations and be home much sooner.

Fundraising Goals:

• Insurance will cover a fair portion of Ben’s heart surgery, but we’d love to help the family with the out of pocket cost they will still need to pay. 

• Ben’s Mama and Papa will need to pay for food and lodging while they stay in New Orleans for the surgery. It would be amazing to help cover this cost as well.
