On September 5th, our family’s world was shattered. My 17-year-old nephew, Benjamin, was struck by a truck and is now in the hospital in critical condition. He has already endured so much, and each day feels like another battle between hope and fear.
Benjamin is more than just a patient in a hospital bed. He is the heartbeat of our family. He is charismatic, funny, and sweet beyond words. He loves his family deeply and is the best big brother, especially to his younger siblings who look up to him in every way. Benjamin also has autism, which is a beautiful part of what makes him unique, including his perspective, his humor, and his light. At just 17, he dreams of becoming a journalist one day and building a family of his own. He deserves the chance to see those dreams come true.
His injuries are severe, including paralysis in his right arm, and his road to recovery will be long and uncertain. His parents, my sister and Benjamin’s father, are facing every parent’s worst nightmare. They are by his side day and night while also caring for their other children. On top of the crushing medical bills, they still have a household of nine mouths to feed, children who need stability, and a mountain of financial pressure they cannot carry alone.
This fundraiser is to help relieve some of that burden. Donations will go toward keeping food on the table, covering everyday expenses, and easing the medical costs while Benjamin’s parents pour their energy into what matters most: his healing.
If you are able, please consider donating. If you cannot give, even sharing this fundraiser or sending a prayer means the world. Every bit of love, support, and generosity brings light into this darkness.
For those who prefer direct support, donations can also be sent to my sister’s Venmo: @kimberlynrichardson
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you. ❤️
