Benjamin T. Rossen presents: The Beethoven Cycle

I am incredibly excited to present the 32 first movements of Beethoven's Piano Sonatas, composed between 1795 and 1822. In order from the vivacious Op. 2 to the transcendent Op. 111, this series puts the eras of Beethoven's life and compositional career in dialogue. As will become apparent, the quirks and eccentricities of his youth cogently anticipate the transformational language of his later work.

This series will take place on May 14th and 15th at 1pm at Harvard University's 50 Church Street Studio in Cambridge, MA. Additionally, this features a partnership with the Music, Imaging, and Neural Dynamics Laboratory at Northeastern University. Across two days of performance, we will study the impacts of live performance on social closeness and synchrony between audience members.

To produce this project, I hope you will consider contributing whatever you can! The concerts are ticketed and pay-what-you-wish, meaning you may contribute as much or as little as you are comfortable. Donating on this campaign counts as payment for your ticket. These funds will support costs relating to venue, the study design, and the highest production value. Further, your support will enable me to envision future musical projects bridging intellectual domains and artistic disciplines.

Thank you so much, and I hope you enjoy this trailer featuring the beginnings of every sonata!
