Benjamin Barb’s journey began on May 10, 2020 in the emergency room of Winchester Medical Center, in Winchester, VA . This is where he was told that the numbness he was having was being caused by a brain tumor. On June 2nd the amazing doctors at UPMC were able to resect 70% of the tumor, they also confirmed that this was a Grade 4 Glioblastoma. Benji started radiation and chemotherapy shortly after surgery. Benji travels back and forth to Pittsburgh UPMC for guidance on treatment plans . His current MRI showed that the tumor is stable but he has minor swelling and has cognitively developed more deficits.
Benji has been a volunteer firefighter for Gainesboro Volunteer Fire and Rescue for close to twenty years and had recently become a career firefighter in Clarke County before being diagnosed. Benji is married to Melissa who is a first grade teacher and has two stepsons and a daughter.
This journey is costing a great deal of money, the extent to which is currently unknown. This will be a long journey and they can also use your prayers, love and support during this difficult time. If you can, please consider donating to help Benjamin Barb's family during this difficult time! If you cannot, no worries... we understand it may not be possible during this Covid-19 craziness. Benji, Melissa and family are so grateful for all of your support thus far ❤️
