Hey everyone! Keeping Plex going is an ongoing expense for me. If it was just for my own viewership, I would be totally fine running it off of any computer since it would only need to convert 1 stream at any given time. Since I have it running for now over 50 users, at busy times on weekends there are as many as 20 streams running at any given time.
Typically my method of spinning up a server is that I have a main computer that I use for work and gaming. Once that computer is ready to be upgraded, my "old" PC is used to run Plex. Unfortunately - my Plex server PC was shutting down every couple of hours - and my main PC is fairly new, so I can't justify upgrading my current PC. Since the Plex server PC would shutdown frequently, I had to move Plex to running off of my main PC. This is not ideal. I need to restart my main PC throughout the day, and when there are video streams running off of my work PC - it slows down my work applications.
I am now in a position to buy a PC solely focused on running Plex. I have been studying up and watching YouTube videos on how to best build a Plex server specifically. So now I know what I need to build a strong server.
I am going to be buying one regardless of what everyone can chip in, but I am asking that if you are able to help, please do. I pay ~$30/mo in subscription services and such to keep my downloads coming. So this will just be an additional cost to me. Anything you can pitch in will go directly towards getting a powerful server. Last time I asked for money I received ~$700 to purchase better, more reliable storage which ultimately cost me ~$1,300. So that was a huge help!
If you aren't able to help - don't feel bad! I just have a lot of users who say, "Let me know if and when I can help pitch in!"
