Help Paulette's Recovery
Donation protected
Hello! This is Paula Corbett.
I'm sure you have heard about my sister Paulette.
Some of you may know her personally.
I have started this tax deductible GoFundMe page for her to obtain a vehicle and care that she will need once released from the hospital.
With the extent of her injuries I am not able to finance her needs on my own. Any type of donation or share of this link would be greatly appreciated. Her story is below. Thank you for sharing and for your donation.
Paulette Patterson Dial
Mother of two, grandmother of three, sister, and friend is in need of care, medical equipment, a handicap accessible vehicle, help with living expenses and handicap accessible living arrangements.
On behalf of my sister Paulette Patterson Dial (59 years old), I am praying for assistance.
My name is Paula Corbett. I am Paulette’s oldest sister.
My kid sister has suffered from chronic pain for more than 18 years. After eight surgeries, two stimulators (both resulted in severe pain and needed to be removed) and countless surgeon consultations my sister finally received an answer.
This year became a blessing when Paulette was told that the rods and bolts in her back from a previous surgery were inserted improperly. The hardware would need to be removed to provide her pain relief.
Taking care of her quadriplegic husband for almost 20 years (until he passed away) had taken its toll on Paulette’s back. Now she was possibly facing the same life her husband had lived. Her upcoming surgery had a high risk of being paralyzed. After careful consideration and wanting relief from her chronic pain, Paulette knew that this corrective surgery was her only option. Knowing that other surgeries would follow to reinsert proper hardware, Paulette endured with an open mind. Her hope of becoming a functional mother and grandmother was her driving force.
The hope was short lived. As Paulette came out of recovery on June 6, 2016, she was in more pain than she had begun with. She was readmitted into the hospital so she could be monitored and her pain level evaluated. Her legs progressively began turning colors. Tests were inconclusive and she was sent home.
Unfortunately, Paulette’s health declined at a rapid pace. By ambulance, she was transported to two different hospitals before the discovery of a large blood clot was located in her aorta. Her legs and kidneys were deprived of blood flow.
Once she was airlifted to Barnes Jewish Hospital, an emergency surgery began to repair Paulette’s aorta. The lack of blood flow to her lower extremities and kidneys was drastic. Within three days she had both legs amputated, loss of function in one kidney but luckily dialysis saved the other. With every hope to walk pain free one day she is now restricted to a wheelchair or bed for the rest of her life. She will still need to have more back surgeries to finish what was started on June 6, 2016.
After 20 days of life saving events in ICU, Paulette was finally transferred to a regular floor. She is a fighter. On August 2, 2016, Paulette was moved to a Nursing & Rehabilitative facility. Her doctors are unsure how long her progress will take before she will be able to come home.
As her sister, I have always been there to help Paulette. But now, I am over my head. I honestly cannot do this alone. My heart hurts that I cannot make it all better for her. I can only make her as comfortable as possible.
I will need to find Paulette a place to live that is accessible for her needs. Ramps, a vehicle to get her to and from doctor appointments and the proper equipment will be costly. Her needs during her recovery and for the rest of her life while she goes through more surgeries, painful rehab and learning a new way to live will be very taxing on her.
I am praying that I can acquire enough through fundraising so that she can live comfortably. With your generous assistance, I will be able to finance the necessities she will need to make it possible.
For this reason, I have made several options available to anyone who would like to donate to this cause. I have also acquired a TAX ID# and bank account to ensure all monies will be allocated properly to Paulette’s needs.
