Benefit for family of Deputy Bolanos-Anavisca, Jr

This Friday morning (12/16/2022) at 2:46 a.m., Cumberland County Sheriff's Office Deputies were investigating a business robbery at 2990 Gillespie Street. As deputies returned from running a K9 track, Deputy Bolanos-Anavisca, Jr. was hit by a vehicle.

Deputies on the scene immediately administered lifesaving efforts. Deputy Bolanos-Anavisca Jr. was transported by ambulance to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries.

Sheriff Ennis W. Wright of Cumberland County Sheriff's Office, NC stated this afternoon:

With heavy hearts, we regret to inform you that an on-duty Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office Deputy was killed in the line of duty. Deputy Oscar Yovani Bolanos-Anavisca, Jr’s life was senselessly taken after he was struck by a vehicle earlier this morning.

Deputy Bolanos-Anavisca (24 years of age) was a dedicated, selfless member of the Sheriff’s Office who lost his life protecting the citizens of Cumberland County. He started his career with the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office in November 2020. Before being assigned to the “C” platoon as unit C-12, Deputy Bolanos- Anavisca, Jr served as a School Resource Officer at Hope Mills Middle School.
