Help Jorge find a cure for his cancer

Donation protected
Hello,

My name is Daniel Angeles and I am raising money for my 14 year old nephew Jorge Martinez.

Jorge Martinez was diagnosed with alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma after his first biopsy on February 12th, 2018 at Riley's Children Hospital. A week after his biopsy, he was scheduled to get his port to start his chemotherapy which included vincristine, dactinomycin and cyclophosphamide. They took a scan to see where the cancer was located and they found it on his bottom left foot, left groin lymph nodes and left hip. After he got his port, he stayed at the hospital for another day to get his first round of chemotherapy. While getting chemotherapy, they told him and his parents that he would be getting vincristine once a week for two weeks, and on the third week he would get all three chemos. Also that he would need a neulasta shot every three weeks to help his white blood cells.

Everything was going fine and his doctor even said they would be able to remove the tumor in his left foot. They scheduled a surgery for May 2nd to get his tumor on his left foot removed. The surgery went fine and they let him rest for 3 weeks without chemotherapy. In June, they wanted to radiate his left hip everyday to shrink it. For about 8 weeks, he went and came back from Indianapolis to get his tumor on his left hip radiated. On July 24th, he was able to ring the bell and thank the nurses and doctors as it was his last radiation.

After he finished his radiation, he went back to his normal schedule to chemotherapy every week. His doctor would check on him every week to see if he had any pain and how he was doing at home. Jorge would usually say he had no pain and was doing really good at home. He was able to handle the chemotherapies very well. His family would sometimes go with him for support to get his short chemotherapy. His short chemotherapies usually last like 15 minutes, while the long days it lasts around 8-9 hours. His doctors told him he should be drinking lots of fluids so that the chemo wouldn't irritate his bladder or kidneys.

In October 3rd, he would be getting a scan to see how everything was going. He and his family prayed that everything went well. On the day of the scan, his doctor came in and delivered great news. He said that the tumor on his left hip was shrinking a lot, and would only need 2-3 months more of chemotherapy to finish it off. Everyone was happy for Jorge as he would soon be finished.

Then came December. The doctors told him that his last day of chemotherapy would be the day after Christmas! Jorge and his family couldn't thank the doctors enough as he was so close to being finished with his treatment. After December 4th, he would be able to get two weeks off as it was going to be Christmas. Then December 26th, 2018 came. Everyone was excited. It was Jorge's last day of chemo, but it was the long chemo. Jorge's family wanted to come and see him ring the bell, so 3 hours before he would ring the bell, his family was on route to the hospital. (Jorge and his family lived about 3 hours away from the hospital.) By the time they got there, he was ready to ring the bell. Everyone gathered around him as he was ready to ring the bell. He rang the bell, and everyone cheered as they were very happy for him. Everyone took a photo with him and gave him a hug. His doctor scheduled two scans to see how his whole body was doing.

January 22nd, 2019 came and he had done his CT scan and MRI. On those days, Jorge told his doctor that he noticed another bump was growing on his side of his left foot, and that it had recently gotten red. Jorge and his parents hoped it was nothing bad. The day after the scan, his doctor called. He said that the bump on his foot, was also cancerous. Jorge and his parents were devastated. His doctor scheduled a PET scan to see if some cancer cells had metastasized. After the PET scan, he and his doctor waited for the results. When the results came in, they were not good news. The PET scan had shown that he had cancer on his left foot again, and that it had moved to his right hip, and his back. The cancer on his right hip and back weren't big enough for Jorge to notice them or feel them, but they were still there. Jorge's doctor gave him a choice to start a study trial to see if that would help with the cancer. They would give Jorge test studies to see if the study medicine would help.

On January 31st, he took his first study medicine, and it did not effect him at all. If the test studies fail, his doctor recommended his parents to take him to a different hospital to see if they could help with Jorge's disease. The only thing stopping us is that we don’t have enough money to do that. The hospital that the doctor recommended is asking for $300,000 for the treatment and a $30,000 deposit which is why we are starting this fundraiser to help raise money so Jorge can get the treatment he needs and live a long happy life.
