Anyone who knows Bethany knows she is an amazing, selfless woman with a heart of gold. Not only is she my cousin, but my best friend and one of my favorite people! She's a single mom who works hard to support herself and her two beautiful kiddos. In the last month Bethany has been diagnosed with MoyaMoya disease. This is a progressive, non-curable disease that causes narrowing of the blood vessels. Both of her carotid arteries are completely closed and has caused her to have multiple small strokes. On August 18, 2020 Bethany underwent brain surgery to reroute blood vessels on the right side of her brain to increase blood flow. There is a possibility that she will have to have the left side done in the future.
As you can imagine, Bethany will continue to be off work for an extended period of time to heal and focus on recovering from brain surgery. Despite a few setbacks, Bethany is doing amazing and is getting stronger each day. The left side of her face, her speech and her left hand continue to improve every single day. Praise God! Along with her family and friends, Bethany is very appreciative of all the kindness, positive thoughts and continued prayers for a steady and healthy recovery. Because MoyaMoya disease is progressive and not curable, Bethany will have to undergo continuous testing and monitoring of the disease. Her medical bills and testing requirements are quite expensive.
