Dear all,
The Largo family is heartbroken to announce the unexpected news of our beloved Elroy Jonathan Largo’s passing. We have lost a friend, a leader, and a strong part of our family. His world of friends and family lost an honest and a genuinely caring person. We are all in shock and grieving.
Elroy was our son, brother, uncle, and best friend. If you had the pleasure of knowing him, sharing a meal with him, and talking with him you realized very quickly he was more than a special person; he was uniquely kind, generous, caring, funny, and accepting. Elroy took on life’s challenges with courageous honor. Educationally he had two master’s degrees: one from the University of Washington and another from Redlands University. Through all his experience, Elroy’s heart always stayed true to the University of Oklahoma. It was as an undergraduate at OU where he grew from a boy into a man as a spokesman for Native American and Hispanic cultures, founding member of the Omega Delta Phi Fraternity, American Indian Science and Engineering Society (AISES) member and mentor, and OU football equipment manager. He developed skills in his undergraduate experience that would later pave the way of his life’s adventures.
Elroy traveled the world and embraced all people and cultures. El’s passion for life was daring, brave, spontaneous, and methodical. Most of all, Elroy loved his family, friends, and his dog Boomer. He cherished spending time with his nieces and nephews, siblings, talking about and watching sports, educational/personal goals, movies, Star Wars, Marvel, going to Comic Con events, fishing, listening to all genres of music, camping, hiking, playing video games, long distant bicycling, and golfing. El went out of his way to make sure every interaction with each person, family, or friend, was genuine and effortless. El knew time with family and friends was valuable and listened whole heartly with no judgements. We all quickly recall personal interactions with him that we hold near and dear to our hearts. His laughter was contagious. El’s witty personality was shared with love and a handshake. Once you talked with El, you gained a best friend in life, you strove to be a better person, and suddenly you too were rooting for the Oklahoma Sooners. Boomer Sooner!
Final arrangements for El will be announced soon. If within your means, the Largo family kindly asks for any assistance in laying Elroy to rest as his passing was shockingly unexpected. Thank you to all who shared your life with Elroy. He loved us all.
