Benedict is an amazing human being, kind hearted, loyal and always ready to lend a hand to anyone. This time he needs us to give him a hand. My name is Juan and Benedict is my best mate. Benedict was diagnosed with a rare condition called Arnold Chiari Malformation type 1 on early 2022, a condition in which brain tissue extends into the spinal canal. We all hoped it to be an easy fix, but after 2 years it has proved quite severe.
The first surgery aimed to release the pressure that built inside his skull. Straight out of the first procedure Benedict lost all motor abilities, he wasn't even able to breath properly. After a long and very concerning stay in the hospital he started the long journey to learn to walk again. Sadly, a year into his recovery and still struggling to maintain his balance and walk without help, further complications arise. Benedict has since undergone 2 more procedures to fight cerebral spinal fluid clots and edema in the brain, causing additional infections, impaired vision and regular admissions back to hospital. These complications have developed into right hemiparesis (loss of motor control and inability to feel the right side of the body) and, meningitis, (the inflammation of the tissues surrounding the brain and spinal cord).
Since all this started, Benedict has not been able to return to work, and although he is a tough young man it's proving too hard to fight this condition without a proper income stream.
All the funds raised will be sent to Benedict's mother who is currently looking after him, to help her cover all the needs Benedict has, from hospital/doctors needs to every day life.
