Hi, my name is Bill DAVIES and I am the Vice President of Benavista Lawn Bowls Club in Estepona which is a town on the Southern Coast of Spain on the Costa del Sol

For over four decades, the Benavista Lawn Bowls Club has been a cornerstone of the Estepona community on the Costa del Sol. Established in 1974, our club has been a welcoming home for both locals and visitors, offering a place for sport, camaraderie, and community spirit. With approximately 70 dedicated members, our club continues to be an essential part of the expat community with other clubs stretching along the Spanish coastline from Marbella to Valencia and beyond.

Lawn bowls is often described as a young person’s game played by older individuals, but here in Spain, it is much more, it’s a vital social and sporting activity that brings people together. The club proudly hosts local league games, tournaments, and Bowling Federation competitions. We also host many games against visiting teams from outside Spain, as well as charitable and other social activities, ensuring that the sport remains alive and thriving in our region.

However, our beloved club is now facing a significant challenge. Years of play have taken their toll on our outdoor playing surface, or ‘carpet,’ which is now in urgent need of replacement. A recent estimate has put the cost of a full replacement, including the new carpet, underlay, sub-layer, importation taxes, transportation from the UK, agents’ fees, and other necessary costs, at between €65,000 and €70,000.

From our own club funds we have managed to save €28,000 towards the project cost. Our club members have in addition also pledged a total of €28,000. However, we are still approximately €14,000 short of our final goal.

This is where we need your help. We are seeking financial assistance in the form of donations from people outside of the club. Your generous donation, no matter how big or small, will bring us one step closer to ensuring that Benavista Lawn Bowls Club remains a thriving hub for the community for many years to come.
