This is for Ben. Well, actually, it’s for him AND his beautiful family.
My name is Amber, and I am writing this because I love my family. My sister, Briana, married a wonderful, loving man named Benjamin Wetzel. He is a devoted husband and father. Their 3 young children, Grace, 7, Ruth, 5, and Seth, 3 have an amazing role model as a father. But Ben has been sick for over a year and has not been himself since January 2018.
Ben & Briana met in college and dated for a couple of years. They got married in January 2008. They had 3 beautiful children. Ben was a devoted father and husband. He was almost always in charge of bath time. Even after a full time job! He took out the trash, cut the weeds, did the dishes, emptied the dishwasher, unloaded the groceries from the car. Helped raise the kids. He is such a good father.
But it changed after January 2018. Ben got the flu and it was obvious he wasn’t the same after getting the virus. He just couldn’t do the things he used to do. He wanted to, but he COULDN’T. One time, he helped Briana put the groceries away and put the milk in the cabinet! She didn’t notice it until the next day. It has been OVER A YEAR of him being sick! He has seen dozens of doctors who have no answers and have not helped.
Ben has Lyme disease. He also has toxic mold in his brain. It has taken over his brain function for a lot of things. This is what Lyme can do to a person. Before this, we used to laugh because Ben would love to take out the trash, even before it was full!! He would also jump up to do the dishes. He loved to do them! At our family gatherings, if Ben was around, we didn’t argue over who was doing the dishes, because we knew we could sit and relax. Ben would do the dishes after!! But he can’t even concentrate on something like that now.
After trying to “fix” Ben, nothing is working. He needs to see a doctor who is an expert on Lyme and toxic mold. They are going to a facility in Florida. The doctor there who opened the place has a daughter who almost died from this disease so he realized most doctors do not know how to help people like Ben.
If you have some time, Briana started a blog. It explains in detail what has happened. Even Ben was able to write his thoughts about what has gone on over the last gruesome 14 months. It’s an amazing story and testimony. I hope you will read it and let it show you something.
They didn’t ask for this GoFundMe, but they couldn’t be more deserving of help from others. We have set a goal that may seem high, but that will not even cover the expenses at the medical facility they are going to in Florida, which will likely be about 4X this goal amount. Also, they have already been paying out of pocket for his treatments in LA.
Thank you so much for caring and helping if you can. Please read their blog, we suspect there may be many others out there not getting the medical help they need and don’t even know it.
