Ben Lisy brain aneurysm surgery, recovery expenses
Donation protected
On Saturday, July 2nd 11-year-old Ben Lisy suffered a medical emergency after having a life threatening brain aneurysm at his home in Los Osos, California. The normally humorous, caring, and fun-loving Ben has had to bravely face a very scary and challenging ordeal unlike any he has faced in his young life. After initially going to the emergency room, it was determined he needed specialized neurological treatment. Ben was then rushed by ambulance to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital (a distance of over 80 miles) where he successfully underwent emergency surgery on July 5th. He is now recovering from surgery at the hospital, where he will be in the intensive care unit until at least July 11th.
Due to the precarious and uncertain nature of Ben's recovery, the doctors initially gave a dire prognosis stating that it was likely Ben would not be able to ever walk again, his entire family (including father Bill, mother Leah and brother Jonny) have had to stay vigilantly by his side this whole time. This crisis has placed great strain on the Lisy family, particularly at a time when the family had to recently move into a new more expensive rental, and Ben's father just started a new job. To date, expenses have included Ben's initial emergency room visit, ambulance, surgery and hospital stay costs otherwise not covered by insurance, potential unpaid time off of work, and hotel expenses in Santa Barbara, where his family has had to stay. Anticipated and ongoing medical expenses also include future physical therapy and rehabilitation costs.
Anyone who knows the Lisy family will attest to their humble, selfless and giving nature. They are always thinking of others in need and would never directly ask for help from the community themselves. So please dig deep in your pockets to help little Ben and his family get through this challenging time and have a healthy recovery to get back to their normal lives.
