Ben Hugoboom’s Recovery

We're reaching out with heavy hearts and unwavering hope as our beloved brother, Ben Hugoboom, faces the most challenging journey of his life.

On the evening of Saturday, November 4th, Ben was riding his motorcycle back to the campus of Ave Maria University, where he is a senior student studying international business.

While traveling on Immokalee Rd in North Naples near the intersection of I-75 Ben was a victim of a horrible motor vehicle accident . After being thrown from his bike and landing on the road, a car ran over his body.

He is currently on the trauma ICU floor.

The injuries and trauma he has sustained are difficult to fathom. It is shocking that he is alive. His spine is fractured in three places. His sternum and ribs are fractured, along with his collarbone and pelvis. His lungs collapsed and are being supported with a chest tube. He has numerous, deep lacerations.

He became conscious over the weekend and is able to speak softly. The doctors and nurses are doing everything they can to manage his extreme pain.

His life will never be the same, and he has a long road of recovery before him. Ben has many loving family and friends who will be with him every step of the way.

But we’re at a crucial stage, and we hope to move quickly. We are working to get him air transferred to a specialized rehabilitation hospital where he can be close to family once he is no longer in critical condition. The air transfer to a specialized facility ensures he receives the best possible medical care tailored to his needs.

Rehabilitation is a pivotal phase in Ben's long recovery, paving the way for him to regain strength and rebuild his life. While he has insurance as a college student, it will not cover the transfer to a specialized facility. An air transfer in his condition is estimated to be between $12,000-$25,000. The amount of his rehabilitation stay and expenses are unknown, but these expenses can quickly become a heavy financial burden.
