Let me introduce you to our friends Ben Dawe and his wife Kairee Dawe.
They have 2 young kids and a sweet ‘ol rescue dog and they call Brentwood Bay on Vancouver Island home.
In early December, Ben found out he has Leukemia. Ben was quickly admitted to hospital that day and is currently undergoing Chemo treatment in Vancouver.
Kairee is staying in Vancouver with their 2 young kids – 3.5 & 5 years old and visiting as much as they can
Thankfully this type of Leukemia (AML) is treatable, but Ben has a long journey ahead and needs our support.
At a minimum Ben will be an inpatient for up to 6 months and then an outpatient for 3 months and will be travelling back and forth for treatment, This means he will need to stay and live in Vancouver for the treatment. He is also taking a new drug that treats the chromosomal changes that have occurred and that is hopeful but he is not in remission as of yet.
Kairee and the kids are staying with her parents for now, but they will need to find their own place in Vancouver to live for the outpatient treatments.
This fund is being set up to help support the family during this crucial time of treatment. The funds will be used to support the family, as neither are able to work right now.
Our goal is to raise $50,000 which we estimate will be used for the following:
$15,000 - Vancouver housing costs $2500 per month x 6 months
$3,000 - Childcare support costs $500 per month x 6 months
$4,500 - Transportation and parking $25 per day
$3,000 - Family travel costs to allow Ben’s mom and sister to visit
$10,000 - Alternate health therapy needs, Vitamins, foods etc.
Ben and Kairee are normally very private people, but at this time they do need our support.
Any excess funds will be donated back to Cancer Research and prevention via BC Cancer Agency . Another way you can help is to donate blood or platelets at a blood donor clinic which is important as blood platelets only have a one-week shelf life.
Donate what you can – share this far and wide!
