Ben Bushman, beloved former Principal at Beverly Hills High School, passed away on Sunday, November 13, 2016.
Ben started as a PE teacher and football coach in 1965 and served in many capacities, as Athletic Director, Director of Student Activities, Assistant Principal, and finally as Principal beginning in July of 1990. He retired in 2003 after 38 years of service in Beverly Hills.
Ben touched the lives of students, teachers, parents, staff, and the entire Beverly Hills community. Everyone who met him felt his sincerity and genuine warmth, passion, and commitment; he was dedicated to his faculty, his students and his athletes. Ben was loved and respected by all who knew him.
Through his life Ben was dedicated to encouraging student athletes whether it was coaching high school athletics, coaching youth soccer, or enjoying his grandchildren’s athletic pursuits. So many athletes who were mentored by him through the years describe him as their favorite coach, an inspiration to their lives, a mentor and a friend.
We’ll never forget the sparkle in his eye, his boundless energy, his bias towards action, his humility and modesty, dedication to serving others, and his love for family, friends, students, teachers, staff and parents.
To honor Ben we are creating the Ben Bushman Memorial Scholarship Fund to be awarded to a Beverly Hills High School senior student athlete who exemplifies the qualities that Ben modeled: hard work, action over words, commitment to the team and teammates, and compassion with fellow students.
All proceeds gathered through our gofundme account will be used towards this scholarship at Beverly Hills High School.
We know Ben will be cheering for BHHS Norman Athletics always. Ben will be so missed by all!
