Ben Broughton's Memorial Scholarship Fund

Ben Broughton was tragically killed in a car accident on Friday, January 7, 2022. He was 17 years old, with a desire to pursue an education and career path into psychology and social work to help teens who struggle with anxiety and depression.
Ben had a deep affinity for the leading-edge intensive afterschool ASPIRE program at Hoag Hospital for adolescents aged 13-17. ASPIRE promotes emotional wellness using a holistic approach built on education, training, and active participation from teens and their families. The program provides a structured, supportive environment that teaches and trains healthy behaviors and shows teens how to effectively regulate emotion, manage distress, and engage in healthy interpersonal relationships.
Ben had just graduated from the program on the same day as the tragic car accident. He had shared with his mom that he wished there was a way he could stick around ASPIRE longer to help transition the “new kids” coming into the program. Ben’s love of life and friends was shining bright that day, as he was looking forward to his future with a clear vision and renewed hope. It is very important to us that we make it clear this was a freak car accident, and in no way intentional.
His family's wish is to start a memorial scholarship program for kids who may need the support and teaching that this program provides. Our desire is that we can help send other teens through ASPIRE, on an ongoing basis, so they can grow and learn as Ben did. The program costs upwards of $10,000 per student and is only partially covered by insurance. We believe that with the help of the ASPIRE program, kids can grow and thrive as Ben did.
