In Loving Memory of Bemnet Deresse
On August 31st, we lost our beloved son, Bemnet Deresse (Gakii), to a senseless act of violence at such a young age.
Gakii was a kind-hearted young man with big dreams. He earned dual degrees in Biomedical Engineering and Biochemistry from the University of Cincinnati, along with an Associate of Science in Biology from Cincinnati State. After graduation, he shared his vision with us pursuing a Master’s and PhD, establishing a lab, and leading a biomedical engineering research group. His “Plan A” was to begin working while applying to graduate school, with a “Plan B” as backup.
Not long ago, we proudly celebrated his new job and the bright future ahead of him. He was brilliant, hardworking, positive, and determined to always follow the right path. Gakii was also deeply committed to helping others. He stood up for people in need and even chose to be an organ donor, giving life through his selflessness.
Why must the world lose such an innocent soul at such an early age? Our families sacrificed so much to help him reach this point, and now we are left heartbroken. His senseless death has shaken so many, but his memory will live forever in our hearts.
To honor his life and carry forward one of his dreams, we are raising funds to establish a Kidney Dialysis Center in Ethiopia in his name. This project reflects his passion for science, health, and service to others, and it will continue the impact he wanted to make in the world.
Please join us in honoring Bemnet’s life and showing his family how much he meant to all of us. Any contribution, big or small, will help keep his legacy alive and make a lasting difference in the lives of others.
Thank you for your love, support, and generosity.
