Support needed for O'Loughlin Family (with special gift for generosity!)
As some of you might know, these last few months have been extremely challenging for the O’Loughlin family. This September, doctors determined that Sean, Beth’s husband, needed an extensive and invasive surgery to help him battle diverticulitis. The surgery did not go as planned and he ended up with sepsis. Sean experienced near organ failure and his life was at risk. Luckily, he was able to pull through after several days in the ICU and was sent home with an ileostomy bag. Sean’s recovery will be tough and slow.
While Beth’s husband was in the ICU, Liam, her son, seriously injured his knee during a school soccer game. The initial surgery to repair Liam’s dislocated knee revealed the damage was much more substantial than originally thought. He will need at least one more surgery to fix his knee. Liam’s next surgery will include adding cadaver cartilage behind his knee, moving the kneecap over, fixing ligaments, cutting tendons and correcting a bone divot. Beth scheduled the procedure for next Friday, a day which we don’t have school, so she won’t miss another moment with her students. Her son had to quit his job at Target since he is no longer mobile and, as a result, cannot afford his car, creating yet another expense for the O’Loughlin family.
Meanwhile, Beth’s toddler nephew, Griffin, was diagnosed with Portal Vein Thrombosis. This is a rare disease with very few treatment options. Managing it requires multiple blood transfusions, and more advanced procedures are only available through a specialist in Chicago. See link below for more information about Griffin O'Loughlin's incredibly rare and dangerous condition.

Any spare time Beth has, is spent caring for her 4-year-old nephew Micky(sibling to the sick kiddo pictured above), at the hospital, or making meals for her Mother-in-Law who is suffering from congestive heart failure.
To pay for the medical bills, lost wages, travel costs, and Sean’s special diet, the O’Loughlin family has burned through their savings, maxed out credit cards and sacrificed all non-essential expenses, including plans to celebrate Christmas.
WHAT YOU CAN DO TO HELP
Beth is a remarkable person! She teaches, nurtures, and inspires her students every day. I simply don’t understand where she finds the strength, kindness, and energy to be such an incredible teacher.
For those who know her, it won’t be a surprise that she is proud person and asking for help is not in her DNA. That’s why we are here! As her room parents this year, we want to reach out to ask if you can help during her time of need. Any monetary donations you can make, no matter how small, will be used to pay for critical living and healthcare costs that she can no longer afford.
Part of the reason our Greenwood community is so wonderful is that we take care of each other when we fall onto hard times. Thank you for being part of this community and for your generous support!
Thank you,
Emily Albright & Heidi Poehlmann- Calega
