I am a part of the Simonsdale community. On Thursday, August 24th, 2023 our beloved SES Liabrarian, Mr. Steve West, unexpectedly passed away. Mr. West had been a member of the Simonsdale Elementary School staff since the school opened. Through his library classes, he had the privilege of working with all students in our school. Mr. West was an integral part of our Simonsdale school

family, and he will be greatly missed. He was a kind and dedicated educator. He was such a happy and silly soul. He always made the kiddos feel special and heard. He made reading and learning fun everyday! He was even a proud VIP of Team Unicorn.

We ask that you keep his family and friends in your thoughts during this difficult time.

" Mr. West was truly the backbone of his family. Mr. West and his wife are raising their almost 15 year old grandson. It was a very unexpected death as well which is financially draining on his family. He was only 61 years old. He touched so many lives in the many years he was a librarian with Portsmouth public schools, especially at Simonsdale!"

"Steve West, Librarian at Simonsdale Elementary School. If you were lucky enough to know him, you were fond of him. Sharing his love of reading was a joy to him that he shared every day. Whether it was saving a new copy of a favorite series for a student, wearing "crazy shirts" that match his favorite book characters, or teasing everyone about his love/hate relationship with rainbows and unicorns, he was invested in children and adults alike. He is sorely missed by the Simonsdale community and his cherished family. Mr. West leaves behind a wife he was crazy about, and children and grandchildren who will no doubt carry on his legacy. His absence leaves a financial burden, though, and our hope is that you will donate to assist his family in bridging the financial gap that Mr. West's passing has left."
