Dear friends and family,
We are devastated to announce the passing of a beloved friend, Qian Yi Lin aka Tira Lin, at the young age of 16. She lost her life on May 25th, 2023 at Washington’s Children’s Hospital due to a severe infection. As friends of this lovely family we cannot begin to imagine the grief they are experiencing. We are reaching out to you so that we may help this family in one tangible way in the hopes of bringing them some relief in their time of grief. We would so appreciate your participation in helping alleviate this family’s financial burden of medical expenses, wake, and funeral costs after the tragic passing of their daughter.
Qian/Tira was a young, bright person who had a caring heart and beautiful smile. Passionate, bright, and hardworking, she never backed down from a challenge, and always went out of her way to spread her kindness to those that knew her. Her laughter was infectious, as was her compassionate spirit, which reached the lives of everyone who were around her. She especially impacted her older sister Xin Yi/Karen with whom she shared a special bond. The sisters relied on each other, leaned on each other to learn the in-and-outs of a new culture, and pushed each other academically. They navigated together the challenges and responsibilities of being the most English-fluent in their family.
Qian/Tira leaves a gaping hole in the lives of many. The life she dreamed of and goals she set for herself now live through all those whose life she touched. Her death was sudden, leaving her family both in the grief of losing her, and in the sudden challenges of informing her school and friends, many of whom did not know she was sick nor had time to say a final farewell before her passing.
Her parents are now faced with the daunting task of arranging a funeral for their beloved daughter. They find themselves overwhelmed not only by the emotional pain but also by the financial burden that comes with saying their final goodbyes. The costs associated with funeral arrangements, burial services, and other essential expenses are far beyond what they can afford, especially considering the unexpected nature of her illness.
How You Can Help: We humbly reach out to you, our dear friends, family, and compassionate individuals, to ask for your support during this incredibly difficult time. Your contribution, no matter how big or small, will make a world of difference and enable the family to give their daughter the dignified farewell she deserves.
The funds raised will go directly towards covering the following expenses:
- Funeral and burial services
- Medical cost
- Necessary paperwork and legal procedures
- Grief counseling and support for our family
We understand that not everyone may be in a position to donate, but your support doesn't have to be solely financial. Please share this campaign with your network and help us reach as many compassionate hearts as possible.
Losing a child is an indescribable pain that no parent should ever have to endure. We are eternally grateful for any assistance you can provide in helping us give this daughter/sister/friend/child a beautiful send off and alleviating the financial strain during this heart-wrenching time.
On behalf of my family, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your kindness, support, and prayers. We leave you with this quote: “I can see myself not only in this body; I can see myself in my friends, in my disciples, in my work, in many things. And if you want to recognize me, don’t look in this direction; this body is only a small part of me.” Thich Nhat Hanh
May Qian/Tira's soul rest in eternal peace.
With heartfelt gratitude, Roxana Contreras and Maya Mendez
