Bring Belo’s Family to Safety- Support Their Asylum Journey

My name is Abel Charles, and I’m pleading with you — not for comfort, but for a chance to stay alive and keep my family safe.

We fled Haiti, a country overrun by violence, kidnappings, and chaos. I received direct death threats from the gangs currently controlling our country. I saw friends vanish. I knew if I didn’t escape, I would be killed. Now I live in the U.S. under Temporary Protected Status with my wife, brother, and niece. But that protection ends August 3rd. After that, we could be deported — back to the horror we barely survived.

We are currently targeted by the gangs. If we are forced to return to Haiti, we will be hunted and killed.

MY CHILDREN ARE TRAPPED IN FEAR

Our children were unable to travel with us to the U.S. due to circumstances out of our control. My young daughter who is 2 years old, my son who is 5 years old, my mother, and my brother recently fled Haiti are in hiding in the Dominican Republic. They stay locked indoors for too afraid to go out even for food or medicine. If they return to Haiti, they will be stalked by the gangs and killed. I did not include photos of my children for their protection.

We’re Trying to Do Everything Right — But We’re Out of Options

We’re doing our best. We’re applying for asylum for ourselves and our children — the only legal way for us to remain safe and eventually reunite our family. But the process is expensive.

Legal support to keep our children safe in the Dominican Republic while they wait to be reunited with us.
