Bellis’ Eye Must Go

Bellis is a 26 year-old Standardbred broodmare that came to Abiding Sunday in November of 2024 from a kill pen. She had just been weaned from her 12th foal and was sent away after not being able to get pregnant again.

She is our only resident Off-Track Standardbred broodmare & our only half-blind horse.

Unfortunately, we were told by our vet today that her blind eye has chronic uveitis, a condition that has been causing a lot of pain for her. We are committed to providing all horses in our care with the best quality of life, and for Bellis that means an enucleation of her eye. Simply put, her eye needs to be surgically removed.
