I am a first year fifth grade teacher. As a fifth grade teacher in San Mateo County, it is my priviledge to accompany my students to the amazing week-long camping and nature science education experience known as Outdoor Ed!
If, like me, you WENT to Outdoor Ed in 5th grade, then you know that this is every bit the full-on, stay-in-a-cabin, hiking, campfires, bunk beds, tree-hugging EXTRAVAGANZA!!
We have almost 60 fifth graders at Belle Air Elementary School in San Bruno. It took a fair amount of convincing to get many of our parents to grant permission for their child to attend and for many the $290 cost is out of reach. As a first year teacher at this school I did not realize that this would be the case for nearly ALL of the eligeable students. We raised some funds along the way and families have contributed what they could afford, but the more families I convince to attend, the more money I need to provide scholarship assitance to MAKE IT HAPPEN :)
This will be most of their first trip to the forest, EVER!
If you are able to contribute to this unforgettable experience for some local kids, you will be investing in memories that will last them a lifetime. And I promise to personally KISS a BANANA SLUG out of sheer gratitude!!
