Hi everyone,
My name is Alita. My 11-month-old puppy Bella was attacked by a large dog and then hit by a car last night.
We live in Midtown Toronto and we were out for a walk last night on March 19th, at around 10:30 PM. At the intersection around Yonge & Hillsdale, we encountered a large (maybe 150lb+) St. Bernard with their owner. The larger dog proceeded to bark aggressively and lunge towards Bella. The owner could not hold on to their dog and the dog ran towards Bella; she was terrified and ran the other way, pulling me along the pavement. She got away and ran onto Yonge Street, and was then hit by a sedan in front of Juicy Dumpling.
Thanks to the many kind strangers last night, Bella was driven to the Veterinary Emergency Clinic at Rosedale and immediately taken in for treatment. She has been stabilized and is currently sedated, but will need surgery for her one of her front legs which has completely broken. She also suffers from broken ribs on her right side and likely punctured lungs.
The cost of the emergency services for Bella last night was around $3,000. I am now waiting to see which hospital I can transfer her to for the surgery, which is estimated to be another $6-7k. This, plus the follow-up appointments and x-rays post-operation (another $1-2K), is likely to total more than $12,000.
Everything happened so fast, and I was not able to get the contact information of the other owner. I am reaching out to everyone for support to pay for Bella's emergency surgery and other treatments while I try to get in touch with them.
Thank you again to those of you that offered me help on the scene, or reached out to me after for support and care. I will give everyone updates when I have them. Please keep Bella in your prayers!
