Bella's Recovery
One of our worst nightmares as parents has come true. Our sweet little Bella Rose is sick. It all began with flu-like symptoms (lack of appetite, slight fever, vomiting, crying and wanting to be held a lot). Then, a few days later, Bella pointed to her head and said, "mommy, it hurts right here". Now I was getting worried. A 2.5 year-old with a headache? I took her to the doctor but they were unable to find anything causing her symptoms and sent us home. Then for the next few days, all she did was sleep from morning to night. She didn't get up to play, eat, drink, anything. I took her to the doctor again and they sent her for a catscan. That's when I heard the words I did not want to hear. They found a large mass in her brain. She had to be air lifted in a helicopter to a children's hospital to be treated.
That's where Bella was diagnosed with an abscess in her brain which required brain surgery. She was in the hospital for 9 days. She will need at least 8 weeks of I.V. antibiotics at home as well as antibiotics by mouth and an at-home nurse to come check on her and her IV once a week. It was also discovered that she has a deficiency of IgG antibodies which makes her prone to infections and requires monthly infusions for the next 6-12 months to treat it.
Although health insurance will cover some expenses, there are still a lot of out-of-pocket expenses we weren't prepared for. Having to be with Bella at the children's hospital for those 9 days, and then return home to care for her since she can not be at a daycare with her recovering immune system, I am also having to take a lot of time off of work and am running out of paid days. She will also be having follow-up MRI's and tests done to make sure the mass does not return. We are seeking any donations possible so we can continue to care for her and be with her during her long recovery. Any donation amount would be greatly appreciated. Every dollar helps!!
