Help the Kaufman Family During Bella’s Recovery

On Monday, September 25, 2023, beautiful 3-year-old Bella sustained multiple skull fractures which resulted in a clot and bleed in her brain. Bella was riding on her Daddy’s shoulders on their way to the car in the Brickyard Square Parking Lot, when Bella dropped her teddy bear, causing Daddy to trip on the bear and fall forward and Bella to fall backwards, landing on her head.

Bella was transported via Med-Flight from Exeter Hospital to Mass General where she was in the PICU for several days. She then spent a few days in the pediatric wing at Mass Gen where an amazing team of doctors worked in tandem to treat her.

Bella will require intensive outpatient rehabilitation to help rebuild her coordination to walk independently again. She has some (hopefully temporary) hearing damage in her left ear as well.

Bella’s father, Jason, will be taking unpaid time off from work to ensure Bella’s recovery and to make sure she gets all the services she needs. As Sarah is in a new position she doesn’t qualify for FMLA and will need to return to work soon. Bella will require months of follow up doctors appointments in Boston as she recovers.
