Believing In The Journey Despite Adversity...

Donation protected
My name is Jaylen Missick and I was born and raised in The Bahamas. I am a first-generation college student looking to pursue a Psychology degree at Burman University in Canada. My story is similar to many recent high school graduates who are facing challenges with funding their college education as a result of COVID-19.

My mother and grandmother have sacrificed and saved to ensure that I had a well-rounded high school experience but are unable to meet the costs associated with post-secondary education. I am hoping to raise enough funds for at least my first year of school while applying for scholarships to cover the final three. This amounts to CAD 20,000 by December 1st, 2020. Although this may seem impossible to some, I believe that faith and perseverance in the face of adversity will pay off and I can achieve this goal.

Throughout my high school career, I was fortunate to have received numerous awards and participated in clubs and extracurricular activities that prepared me to transition to university life. These included:

·         President Executive

·         Senior Class President

·         Physics Award

·         Vice Principal’s Leadership Award

·         Principal’s Scroll

·         Member of Chess Club

·         Member of Eco Club

·         Sound Engineering Club

·         Art Club

·         Student Teacher’s Aid

·         Volunteer at Ardastra Gardens Zoo with kid’s camp and feeding program

·         Camp Counselor for Shiloh Seventh Day Adventist Church Vacation Bible School

·         Bahamas Youth Development Leadership Program (BYLD)

·         Youth Empowerment Program (YEP)

·         Junior Achievement Program (JA)

·         Governor-General Youth Award (GGYA)

I would like to thank everyone in advance for their contributions, whether it is monetary or by forwarding my story to someone who can contribute financially. Your investment in my future will allow me to invest in someone else’s later.
