Believing in BB Through Her Breast Cancer Journey
Donation protected
Life is full of hills and valleys. It is too easy to forget how fragile life really is until something happens to us, or the people close to us, that puts this difficult fact into perspective. My Aunty BB has very recently, and very surprisingly, been diagnosed with breast cancer. The reality of the fear and uncertainty that comes with cancer has been a wakeup call for us all, but her strength through this diagnosis has been astounding. Her smile still shines bright and her positivity about life is inspiring to the many, many people who love her. However, the care and treatment that we are learning she needs is an overbearing weight that cannot be looked passed.
My Aunt is scheduled to have a double mastectomy August 21st. As it is impossible to predict the future, it is easy to predict the financial stress that will be caused by all of the health-related expenses. This is only the beginning of a long, hard road ahead for my Aunty BB. We do not know what other obstacles are going to pop up through this process, or what other financial burdens her family will have to navigate, all on top of a physically and emotionally painful recovery.
My Aunty BB has two gorgeous daughters- Makena, 14, and Ember, 3. The girls, as anyone can imagine, need their mom in good health to support them throughout their lives as they navigate their own obstacles, and reach their own milestones. Beyond her own daughters and loving husband, Bryan, my Aunt's family extends beyond her bloodline as she works as a teacher specializing in reading programs. This is not just work for my Aunty BB. Her dedication to her students has changed lives and her love for these children is a warmth that we all wish for in a teacher, a mother, a wife, a sister, and a person. She has consistently put other people before herself, with a passion to help other people prosper and reach their potential. Now it’s her time to receive the same help, support and love that she gives out every single day.
Life is full of hills and valleys - right now, circumstances have placed my Aunt BB in a valley. She shouldn’t have to climb out of this challenging time on her own, and I refuse to stand by and watch her navigate not just her newfound diagnosis, but the financial burden that it places on her beautiful family. Her recovery should be the first thing on their minds- not the price of medications, surgeries, and how they are going to finance them all. Anything, and I mean ANYTHING will help them through this challenging time. After all, Aunt BB treats everyone like her family. Let’s pull together, as a human family, to make sure she receives the love and support she deserves
All my love,
