Justin's Medical Fund

Updated - July 25, 2015

Thank you to Justin's Masonic brother Maurice for creating this GoFundMe account. My family and I are truly grateful. I'd also like to thank each and everyone who has given to this fund and all of you for your thoughtful support.

We initially thought we'd have a couple of months of intense rehab and take Justin home all better. Sadly it didn't work out that way.
The severe nature of Justin's brain injury will require many months or even years of medical intervention.

To update everyone on Justin's progress, he has improved considerably over the past 6 weeks but his journey has just begun.
He now has use of his upper body and is in therapy to help him regain the use of his lower body. Due to the severe nature of his brain injury he was placed in the traumatic brain injury rehabilitation program. Brain injury recovery is a slow and uncertain process. Our care team has determined and informed us of the many challenges we face and the changes we must make once he goes home to accommodate his new life’s journey. From in home care to outpatient rehabilitation services that the insurance doesn't begin to cover.
Again, we are so very thankful for all the love and support for Justin and anything you give will be greatly appreciated. No amount is too small.

I will continue to give update's on Justin's progress here and via Facebook.

Justin Merritt, a senior at Tuskegee University, was in a car accident on June 12, 2015 from which he suffered major head trauma. He was air lifted to Columbus Regional where he was in a coma for a week. Justin remained in Columbus Regional Intensive Care until July 3, 2015 when he was moved to the Shepherd Brain and Trauma Center in Atlanta, Georgia. This means he will remain there for at least the next six weeks.

Justin's medical bills are already astronomical and we are asking for any financial support you all can provide.

We know and believe he is going to come back. Justin is a very strong minded and determined individual. The senior is currently studying biology and chemistry at Tuskegee University. His latest studies include working in the lab to find a cure for Alzheimer's. He is extremely passionate about this study as his maternal grandmother is currently battling the disease. Justin has the most optimistic outlook on life. He is always smiling and educating people on the powers of the human brain.

Justin is now breathing completely on his own and they have taken him off all machines. While waiting for him to recover, his care is going to require around the clock monitoring. His medical bills are already climbing. Please donate and please "Believe for Justin". #BELIEVE4Justin
