Dear friends,
As many of you know, AJ has been having issues with his eyesight for the past two years. (The gist of it is that the glands which should be producing oil to lubricate his eyes are not. This leads to extreme dryness, light sensitivity, inability to look at screens, etc.*) Though his signature sunglasses are undeniably fly, his eye difficulties have been having real consequences on his quality of life - from requiring the help of an assistant to type up essays to limiting the range of jobs he can consider.
For his birthday (February 24th, yeah, sorry, somewhat belated) we were hoping to crowdsource the funds to get AJ the procedure he needs to clear his meibomian gland ducts and finally Be Able to See Again. The cost of the procedure is $750 per eye, i.e. $1500 in total.
For the next month (from March 24th, AJ's1/12 birthday, to April 24th, his 1/6 birthday), we will be running this campaign to raise the necessary funds. Although this may seem a lot, if each of us will donate $15, we can and will achieve this. Please share the link to this page with any friends of AJ's that you know. However, please do keep it to personal - not professional - contacts. This is a personal issue/struggle of AJ's and we do want to respect his privacy. Along these lines, please do not post to Facebook, Twitter, etc.
A COUPLE OF IMPORTANT NOTES:
1) This IS a (belated) birthday present, so please DO NOT MENTION THIS CAMPAIGN TO AJ. Unless you have a really important/compelling reason for doing so. In which case, please contact me first yourself (you can do so through this campaign page).
2) In the event that we surpass our $1500 goal, the remainder of the funds will be pledged to additional eyecare expenses (AJ has special eyedrops and a heating mask he must use regularly) or paying off student loans.
Let's get out there and show the guy who gives so much to us all how much we appreciate him in return.
Many thanks and love to you all,
Miranda (friend of AJ's from school)
