My name is Dmitry, and I'm raising funds for my partner, Katsiaryna Bartko — a Belarusian asylum seeker who is being denied the medical care that keeps her alive while held in ICE immigration detention in Leavenworth, Kansas.

Katsiaryna fled Belarus after taking part in the 2020 pro-democracy actions against the Lukashenko regime. She is a member of an opposition group the regime brands "extremist" — and of opposition networks that Belarus prosecutes as crimes. The authorities are already looking for her. If she is deported back, she faces arrest, a fabricated criminal case, and torture — and as a cancer patient who depends on daily medication, an interruption of her treatment in a Belarusian prison would be life-threatening.

Years ago, Katsiaryna had her thyroid surgically removed. Like everyone who lives without a thyroid, she depends on daily hormone medication and high-dose calcium for the rest of her life. Without them, her body cannot function — and within days she becomes critically ill.

Since being detained in a private prison run by CoreCivic, the facility has repeatedly failed to give Katsiaryna the medication she was prescribed — even though its own doctor diagnosed her condition and ordered the treatment. In early June, this led to a series of medical emergencies and multiple trips to the hospital. She has come dangerously close to losing her life in a cell, for a condition that is fully manageable with medicine that costs almost nothing.

And it gets worse. ICE is legally responsible for the medical care of every person it detains — including emergency hospitalization. Yet the bills from those emergencies — emergencies caused by the failure to give Katsiaryna her medication in the first place — are now being sent to her. When she kept asking for her medicine, officers told her to stop making medical inquiries.

We are fighting on every front — with her attorney, Steven Goldstein of Pozo Goldstein LLP, with members of Congress, and in the courts. But this fight is expensive, and we cannot do it alone.

Every dollar raised goes directly to three things:

Legal fees — to keep her attorney fighting for her release and her asylum case

Medical bills — the hospital charges ICE was responsible for, now wrongly billed to Katsiaryna

Bond — to get Katsiaryna out of detention and somewhere she can finally receive the care she needs to survive

Katsiaryna came to this country asking for protection. Instead she is sick, alone, and being punished for needing the medicine that keeps her alive. Please help us get her out. If we raise more than we need, any remaining funds will go to Americans for Immigrant Justice, a Miami-based nonprofit that defends immigrants in ICE detention.

С момента задержания частная тюрьма CoreCivic раз за разом не выдавала Катерине назначенные лекарства — при том что её диагноз поставил и лечение назначил их же собственный врач. В начале июня это привело к серии неотложных состояний и нескольким госпитализациям. Она была на грани гибели в камере — из-за состояния, которое полностью контролируется лекарствами, стоящими копейки.

И это ещё не всё. По закону за медицинскую помощь каждому задержанному, включая экстренную госпитализацию, отвечает ICE. Но счета за те самые госпитализации — вызванные тем, что ей вовремя не дали лекарство, — теперь выставляют ей самой. А когда она продолжала просить лекарства, сотрудники велели ей перестать задавать вопросы о своём здоровье.

Мы боремся на всех фронтах — вместе с её адвокатом Стивеном Голдстайном (Pozo Goldstein LLP), с членами Конгресса и в судах. Но эта борьба дорого стоит, и в одиночку нам не справиться.

Каждый доллар пойдёт строго на три цели:

Адвокат — чтобы продолжать борьбу за её освобождение и дело об убежище

Медицинские счета — за госпитализации, которые должен был оплатить ICE, а выставили Катерине
