Please support my niece, Bek, and her family during their journey toward healing. Rebekkah (Bek, Bekky, Rebby, or B) is a spirited and loving 11 year old. She loves animals, especially horses, and her stuffed animal collection. She enjoys drawing, building legos creations, and camping. She is always up to go on outdoor adventures whether it's with her soccer team, girl scouts, or just playing with her cousins. Her friends and family know her as tender and kind. The girl who makes the homemade card and wraps up her own treasures to give to others. Rebekkah also has a twin brother and older sister. The three of them are inseparable. They will wake each other up for comfort in the middle of the night and tend to one another when one isn't feeling well. Rebekkah is a warm glowing light that can be felt by all in her presence.
On October 27, 2025 Bek was diagnosed with Thyroid Cancer. After multiple appointments, tests, and images, it was learned that along with the nodules covering her thyroid, she also has several affected lymph nodes and nodules in her lungs. Bek requires surgery to remove her thyroid and lymph nodes in her neck. She will then require treatments to address the lung nodules and any left over cancer. Her surgery and treatment is being provided at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia due to their expertise in pediatric endocrinology.
While her family is comforted by the experience and compassionate care they've received there thus far, the hospital requires extensive travel for each visit. In addition to travel expenses (gas, food, lodging, parking etc.), these trips also mean unpaid time off of work for her dad who works night shift at Fed Ex Freight and is currently using FMLA. He is the sole financial provider for their family. Bek's mom, my little sister, works inside the home providing the family's daily home cooked meals, tending to their chickens, and homeschooling their 3 children. Their family was already struggling financially and fighting to save their home prior to this stressful upheaval in their lives.
In sharing this information, I'm hoping that during this time you can give your positive thoughts, prayers, and support to Bek and her family. Any and all help in this journey is appreciated and nothing is too small. Each appointment requires a minimum of 2 days away from home and work. A tank of gas for a round trip to the hospital is about $100. In addition to the gas, there is unpaid time off work, hotels for overnight procedures, food during travel, and of course, medical expenses. Any monetary support will go to the cost of all of that. This is not just about the travel it is also about surviving. Their family has suffered a rough year with a broken furnace, basement flooding, loss of their first and only family pet, transportation repairs/barriers, and multiple increases to their mortgage. With this new mountain placed in front of us, stepping up seems impossible. I know what the power of family, community, and prayer can do. Please be with us in healing our baby girl and making miracles happen! Please share the gofundme link and most importantly Bek's story.
