Hello, my name is Bek, I’m 26 years old and I’m from Glasgow. I have reached a point in my life where I feel the need to make this gofundme to help financially with my gender affirming journey. From as long as I can remember, I have had a struggled relationship with my body and have spent a long time trying to fully understand what that meant for me. I am very blessed to be part of a community of people who have given me time, have listened, have shown me love and respect as I have gone on this journey of understanding my gender and for that I am so grateful. I am now at a place in my life where I can speak openly about my gender and my experiences.
Having body dysphoria has always played a massive role in my life. Being someone who is bigger chested I have always struggled to get the desired results from binding and trying to find a solution for my dysphoria through this has often left me feeling defeated and intensified my feelings of dysphoria. It has been a long journey of trial and error trying to find a binder that fits but the only way I will ever have the results that I want is through surgery.
I have been on a waiting list now for the NHS gender clinic appointment and as waiting times are increasing, I am feeling more and more hopeless about getting to a place in my life where I am happy in my body, and have come to the bitter realisation that I cannot rely on our National Health Service to assist me in any way. This is the reason I have felt it necessary to go public with my struggles and ask for help. I have made the decision to raise funds to go private, obtaining money to fund this surgery on my own would be impossible. Therefore, I am writing now to ask for support to raise funds for my surgery. I have had a consultation from a private gender clinic who quoted me a starting price of £7,000 for the surgery and other consultation fees range between £150-250, my hope is to reach this goal of £8,000 and any other expenses, travel, aftercare etc. I intend on paying for myself.
Thank you to everyone who has been a part of the community that has supported me, and I am thankful for all the love that I receive in my life. As a celebration of my community and the people I love, I intend on organising a 5k run fundraiser for this gofundme which will be organised for August 2021.
