John C. Burroughs Elementary School is a Chicago Public School. It is one of several elementary schools in the Brighton Park neighborhood on the city's southwest side. Our school houses 512 students 95.9% are from low-income households, and 1.0% are homeless.
Recently, our school was robbed and 60 of our third and fourth graders were affected by this senseless crime. The robbers took every single Ipad that was used to instruct our two third and fourth grade classrooms. The students are asking for their Ipads, and we need to replace these learning devices immediately. Our school has no funds due to budget cuts throughout CPS and the state.
We are asking for help to raise $10,000 to be able to purchase new technology for our hard working students who recently were mentioned in a Chicago Sun-Times article for having achieved the highest PARCC scores in CPS.
