Being there for my mother

Donation protected
I hate doing this kind of thing but I also didn't expect to be thrown such a curve ball. To put it simply, my mom is very sick. Her doctor has given her 3-6 months left and I would like to visit her as much as I can so that she's not alone.

The problem is she is 3 and half, almost 4 hours away. All money donated would go to helping pay for gas and a meal whenever I go visit her every couple weeks. Even if we surpass the goal, thats just more trips I won't have to stress over gas. One goal of passing I have is maybe having extra to get treats or comfort items to bring with me whenever I visit so that I can help make sure last few months as enjoyable as possible, be it candies, a blanket, or even a book.  It would mean the world to us if people can help.

Here's more of the story of whats going on.

My mom had both hips replaced about 7 or 8 years ago. But the right hip caused alot of problems. It dislocated several times to the point that it needed to be surgically corrected. While recovering from that, my mom was diagnosed with MRSA and put on vancomyacin. Since then, she has continued to have problems with that hip and infections.

In fact, she moved to Kansas about a week after I moved to Omaha and just a day or two after the move, came to discover that she had massive amounts of infection in her right hip. The doctors cleaned it out, stuffed it with antibiotic infused beads and have since been giving her antibiotics to help fight the recurring infection. On top of this, Mom was diagnosed with an auto immune disease but it was caught early and she was put on medication to keep it from worsening.

As time went on, Mom was diagnosed with osteromylitis, infection having set in and around the bone and right hip implant. It has been dissolving bone and working its way into her system. The doctors kept wanting to do surgery to clean it out but the results would leave her wheelchair bound since there would not be enough structure left to rebuild. Mom declined and kept up on antibiotics.

Eventually her hip gave way, too much of the bone the implant was stuck too, gone from the infection and ended up in a wheelchair regardless and moved to the hospital. Things have just gone down from there. There were lesions on her back but test showed nothing bad. Mom was still denying surgery. In the meantime, my aunt pushed my mom to move to assisted living and into hospice. We all knew it was just a matter of time as Mom was having more and more trouble.

She is currently still in hospice under pallative care. She has marked herself as DNR (Do Not Resuscitate), discontinued further antibiotics and got her doctor to give a realistic estimate of how much time she has left. We've been told 3 - 6 months. Mom is currently on comfort measures so she can take her pain meds whenever she needs them so that she's comfortable. Now its just the waiting game.

To anyone who shares this or can donate, thank you so much. It is very much appreciated. My mother and I thank you for your support.
