Hi, my name is Trisha Porter I am fundraising for Shamika Mitchell who wrote and will be directing the short film called “Behind the Curl”. I’ll be joining in the story telling Journey to help make this project possible because this is a story that needs to be told.

Behind the Curl interweaves the stories of 5 black youth who relay the misguided perceptions society imposes upon them. “Kai” is based on Mika’s true story and the struggles she endure, she wanted to tell this story that relates to many people like her. Its critical she tell this story because we need to shed light on black mental health, bring awareness to how racism affects and how society has brainwashed black youth. Importantly, these stories are the personal stories of the filmmakers and those around them.
