My sweet baby Roo. I got Roo as an 8-week old puppy. She has always been outgoing, curious and extremely friendly. She loves everyone and everything, Roo isn't scared to express that. Roo always pushes through a crowd to meet someone shes never met before.
Roo and I moved to South Florida to be with our family. We have been here for over a month and everything was going very well. Roo has 10 other dogs to play with and an abundance of people to rub her belly. Unfortunately, due to Roo's fearless nature, we have found ourselves in a tricky situation. A few nights ago Roo met a rattlesnake. The bite wound was not found for a day or two, but we took her to the vet immediately the following morning because of some suspicious swelling around her neck and mouth. A few days later we found a vet who finally determined it was, in fact, a snake bite and began antivenin treatments immediately. Rattlesnake venom is hemotoxic which means it damages red blood cells, platelets, and blood protein. Rattlesnake bites destroy skin tissue, red blood cells and cause you to hemorrhage internally.
Roo is currently staying at the specialty care hospital in Palm Beach Gardens where she is being treated and cared for by the amazing doctors and staff. She has had several treatments of antivenin but so far it is not enough. She might need surgery for tissue damage and will need more treatment. Roo needs our help to save her life.
Roo has always been a support to me. She knows when someone is upset and she always eases the pain with her sweet, kind heart. She is everything to me, she is part of our family and she needs our help. This whole ordeal has been extremely devastating. You never think anything like this can happen at your own home. Everything we raise will go to Roo's care and recovery and anything left over will be donated to local humane societies and vet clinics. Please help us save Roo, she needs us right now.
