I’ve been asked why do I think that it is essential that this not-for-profit documentary film gets made?
It's too easy to become almost immune to Chicago's crime statistics, especially if we live in communities that are less directly affected by violence daily. So far this year, there have been almost 600 homicides in Chicago, and the rise in armed carjackings is causing alarm throughout the city. It has been too easy for too long for those living in more affluent areas to ignore the violence primarily concentrated in black and brown communities. To not listen and react to the stories of those most affected, no matter how privileged you are, is to court a path of inevitable difficulties for all. It's not good enough to say it's safe where I live. This docuseries has been in the works since 2017 and has been a labor of love by its director Valerie Goodloe. This series will help inform, educate, and connect the viewer emotionally and encourage more people to work together to stop the cycle of violence before it eventually happens to them. Please consider a donation to help us with the final editing and production and play a part in getting this work finished for the benefit of public safety in all of Chicago.
