Hello Family and Friends-
Greetings from the Kinney family! As you all know, Nick was in a serious fire accident in the early morning hours of Friday, January 7th. We are so grateful that Nick was able to wake up and escape with his life. Nick suffered very minimal external injuries, but he was severely injured internally because of smoke/soot inhalation.
Nick was rushed to UNMC in Omaha, and it was quickly determined that his needs would be far greater than what they could provide at UNMC. Nick was flown to St. Elizabeth in Lincoln NE to be cared for in their internationally renowned burn center.
The first few days were very uncertain for our family as Nick was intubated and heavily sedated to keep him comfortable while he swelled internally. Shortly after Nick arrived in Lincoln, he tested positive for Covid-19. This added another layer of complexity to the delicate situation.
Thankfully Nick was in great hands with regards to medical care, and he stayed tough throughout his stay in Lincoln. He improved every day and was released on Tuesday January 18th to continue his road to recovery.
As a result of the house fire Nick has some serious physical, emotional, and financial healing to endure. A lot of folks have reached out asking how they can help more, so we thought a go fund me was the right move.
Nick lost a lot in the fire. We were able to secure some clothes and other keepsakes, but much of what was in the house is destroyed or not salvageable. He is currently displaced because his house is uninhabitable as well.
Nick will most certainly have medical bills, but that is only the tip of the iceberg. He’ll need deposit money for a new residence, money to replace his clothes and kids’ clothes, dishware, cookware, furniture, etc.
Nick and his family are bursting with gratitude for the support this group has provided to this point. Your words and actions have made this tough time easier to manage. Here’s to Nick Kinney’s road to recovery!
Much Love,
-Jake Kinney
