Let me introduce you to Beef, my Black Labrador.

His name suits him - big, lovable 12-year-old puppy who knows no stranger and gives great leg hugs.

Around July 4, 2025, Beef started experiencing some runny eyes. We tried cold and warm compresses, saline washes, vet-prescribed eye drops - nothing seemed to really clear it up.

Then, a few weeks later, Beef was suddenly very lethargic. He had trouble standing and even getting off the floor or his bed. This is a dog who literally runs and leaps into the back of the SUV when we leave doggy daycare.

The sudden change in health took us back to the vet. X-rays found a mass in his lung - very likely cancer. A couple days later we went to an oncologist vet hospital who attempted a needle aspiration, but could not get to the mass.

The next option is a CT Scan, which is ~$3,000. Even if that was done (which unfortunately I cannot cover financially), it does not mean we can extend Beef’s life. It would help determine treatment options, which could help - but it’s a cost that may not bring new information.

So, Beef is comfortable - eating, relaxing, etc. My energetic boy won’t be jumping up much anymore (although I can tell he wants to), and that’s okay. I just want his last days, weeks or months to be enjoyable for us.

Beef isn’t alone - I have his sister, Grace, as well. Their mother was my dog - Georgie - and the puppies were born in my living room. They have been in the same home since they arrived into the world.

I have shared Beef’s story on TikTok and instagram, and I’ve had people ask to donate. I’m fortunate to have a good job and some savings, and don’t live an extravagant lifestyle, but the nearly $2,000 I’ve paid out in the last month does hit a bit hard.

So… I am throwing this option out if someone would like to help out. Funds would be used for medicines and palliative care, as well some “bucket list” experiences for the pair.

I appreciate any gift, and know that you are helping one of the best dogs out there. Georgie, Beef and Grace helped me through some personally dark periods in recent years, and I don’t know what I would have done without them.

They are my family.
