Meet Beebo

Beebo is my beloved cockatiel who has been fighting through a long and complicated medical journey. He has always been a bright and affectionate bird, but following a gastrointestinal obstruction in October 2024, he has struggled with persistent digestive issues that have been difficult to fully resolve. Despite months of treatments, diagnostics, and adjustments, he is still battling discomfort, and I am doing everything I can to get him back to full health.

Beebo’s Medical Struggles

It all started when Beebo became lethargic and lost his appetite. Multiple tests and imaging eventually revealed an obstruction in his intestines, which required intensive treatment to clear. Though he miraculously passed all of the material and returned to a normal state in his bloodwork and x-rays, his symptoms never fully resolved. He has continued to experience discomfort, squatting postures, and ongoing digestive distress.

Over time, he has undergone:

X-rays, bloodwork, and ultrasound imaging to rule out major organ issues
A variety of medications including motility drugs, pain relief, and gut protectants
A barium study to assess his digestion and check for lingering blockages
Dietary modifications to help his system recover

The Current Situation

Beebo recently underwent a barium study, which finally confirmed that he does not have any remaining blockages or GI damage, but he still requires ongoing medical support to get him back to normal. His wonderful vet, Dr. Speer (of Medical Center for Birds in Oakley, CA) believes residual material or lingering gastrointestinal dysfunction is causing his discomfort, and we are now trying another round of motility medication and gut protectants to help him pass any remaining material and restore normal function.

While Beebo has shown moments of improvement, his recovery has been slow and requires continued veterinary care, medications, and potential follow-up diagnostics. The financial burden of his ongoing treatment has been significant, adding up to several times the amount I have set this fundraiser at, and I am asking for help to ensure that Beebo gets every chance at a full recovery.
