The Bennetts Need Help

My best memory of my cousin Jeffrey is him doing a cannonball into our grandparents' pool and completely soaking everyone on the sides. He's jumped courageously into every decision ever since. He joined the Army National Guard, completed a 22-month tour in Iraq, and had a beautiful daughter, Kayah.

Jeff was stationed in Balad, Iraq, where he was assigned to work in the motor pit. The motor pit was located right next to the air strip in Balad. They encountered constant mortar attacks and close calls from IED blasts. He was also in the vicinity of a burn pit.  You might know that when overseas, burn pits are used to dispose of any military material that is no longer serviceable. Toxins like chemicals, paint, medical waste, blood-soaked fabrics, lubricants, batteries, plastics, etc are airborne, creating a haze around military bases. It's been compared to Agent Orange and has left many servicemen and women terribly ill.

On February 19, 2015, Jeff married Jennifer, the love of his life. You could immediately tell upon meeting her that she brought so much joy into his life! On December 20, 2017, she was diagnosed with breast cancer.  She's been through six rounds of chemo, had a partial mastectomy, and three lymph nodes removed from her arm.  After a rigorous year, she's now waiting to begin her 4 weeks of radiation treatment. Bailey, Jennifer's 14 year-old daughter, has had 20+ surgeries because of a congenital defect called Goldenhar Syndrome. She has more upcoming doctor's appointments.

On January 20th, Jeff accidentally stepped on a nail and went to the VA hospital in Delaware the next day. Bloodwork came back abnormal and he went home with antibiotics. His foot and calf swelled up so badly that he ended up at Cooper Hospital. He had foot surgery to clean out the remaining infection and  also underwent a bone marrow biopsy to address the abnormal bloodwork. Results came back: he has acute myeloid leukemia and pneumonia. A PICC line was inserted and he has already begun chemotherapy. His white blood count is so low that he is in reverse isolation and will be moved to the ICU.

Jeff and Jennifer have both been out of work. They have a limited amount of income from VA retirement and social security. Any monetary help that you can provide would aid my cousins' family with parking costs, tolls, cost of gas, some medical bills, and would definitely raise their spirits.
