Beds4unpaidcarers (for hospital stays)
Donation protected
Hello,
My name is Rachel, I’m an unpaid carer to my adult daughter who has complex medical needs and severe learning disability.
I’m raising money for Ward 91 and Ward 92 at St James Hospital, Leeds for some camp beds that can be used by unpaid carers/relatives when staying overnight to care for their relative. Sleep is so important for everyone. However, unpaid carers often don’t have anywhere to sleep at night, camp/fold down beds lost, borrowed to another ward or none available (they will be marked up to avoid them being lost). Unpaid carers often end up trying to sleep in a chair, down the end of their relatives bed or on the floor on a mattress (if one is free). Unpaid carers are carers, they just are not paid, and are often doing over 12 + hours a day. They need to sleep as anyone else does.
No one should have to explain why they need to be able to sleep when caring for a disabled relative and when caring 24 hours a day.
Please help raise funds to be able to purchase some fold up beds for Ward 91 (and 92). Any extra donated will be used for other wards in the hospital to provide fold up beds, so more unpaid carers can have a place to rest /sleep overnight across the hospital.
Thank you for your support
From an exhausted unpaid carer
